Liverpool to sign former Barcelona defender: reports

The current contract of Mingueza with Celta Vigo is set to expire next summer

Liverpool are interested in signing former Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza, international media reported on Tuesday.

The current contract of the Spaniard with Celta Vigo is set to expire next summer

The club is currently suffering due to injuries in the defence, as Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley have had injury issues, while summer signing Giovanni Leoni is out with an ACL injury.

Liverpool tried to secure the signature of Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window, but the deal couldn’t be finalised, and he ended up staying at Crystal Palace.

According to Diario AS, Liverpool is interested in signing Mingueza; the club is looking for a Bosman move by signing a pre-contract with the player in January for a potential summer move.

His contract is set to expire in the summer, and he will then be a free agent.

Mingueza, 26, is the product of Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia. He contributed two goals and five assists in 66 appearances for Barca and moved to Celta Vigo in 2022, where he recorded seven goals and 12 assists in 120 matches he played for them.

Former Barcelona man plays as a full back for Celta Vigo, but he also has the experience to feature as a centre-back. He has also featured for the Spanish national team four times.

On the other hand, Barcelona is also interested in signing Liverpool’s target Guehi as a free agent.

Guehi’s deal with Liverpool crashed in the summer because Crystal Palace failed to sign a replacement for their captain.

As per Football Espana, Barca want to sign Guehi as a free agent in the summer as the futures of Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen are in doubt.
