Officially Sealed: The Steelers announced the signing of 2 new top players; no. 2 will surprise you.
Mason McCormick, a guard selected by the Steelers in the fourth round out of South Dakota State, inked a four-year contract. The 119th overall choice went to McCormick.
Coach Pat Meyer of the offensive line remarked, “We obviously loved him.” Although he attends a smaller school, the young man finds it difficult. He is an excellent football player.
“I can tell by talking to him and working the kid out that he wanted to be a Steeler. His arrival excites us.
He is going to be assigned to the guard position. He’ll show up and get right to it.
During his undergraduate career, McCormick has participated in 70 games, setting a school record with 57 consecutive games in which he started at left guard on the first offensive snap in each of the 15 games in 2023.
McCormick declared, “I am thrilled to be a Pittsburgh Steeler.” “This is definitely a dream come true.”
In 2023, McCormick was recognized for the fourth time in his career as an All-American and All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection. In a victory over North Dakota, he was also named Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Some have called McCormick the friendliest yet meanest player in the game.
Knowing that what happens on and off the field are two different things, he concurs.
“I think on the field there is only one way to play this game,” McCormick remarked. “When you are off the field, there is no reason not to be a good person and nice to people.”
Steelers sign Lee
One of the team’s sixth-round draft selections, defensive end Logan Lee, was signed by the Steelers to a four-year contract. Lee, an Iowa player, was chosen with the 178th overall choice.
At Iowa, Lee participated in 43 games, starting 41 of them. Including 58 solo stops, 18.5 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, and seven passes defensed, he has 158 career tackles.
On the defensive line, Lee can play a variety of positions, and he’s always willing to pitch in and help out.
“Wherever they ask me is where I see myself,” Lee stated.
In 2023, Lee made 13 starts at defensive tackle and finished with 55 tackles, 19 of which came from solo stops. In addition to three sacks, three pass breakups, one pressure, and one block kick, he made five and a half tackles for a loss.
In a victory over Purdue last season, Lee recorded a career-high 10 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss, and a career-high two sacks.
Phil Steele was voted third-team All-Big Ten, and he received honorable mention All-Big Ten from league coaches and the media.
Due to the fact that one of his close pals was a fan of black and gold, Lee grew up as a Steelers supporter.
“I grew up a huge Steelers fan my whole life,” Lee remarked. “I am extremely fortunate.
“I became deeply involved in the historical aspects of the NFL. I adored everything about the Steel Curtain era. I had a lot of fun watching Mel Blount bash people’s heads and do other things. Growing up, I was always a huge Steelers supporter.”
