Teams for the Co-op Canadian Open in Red are announced by GSOC
The Co-op Canadian Open, which will take place at Servus Arena in Red Deer, Alberta, from January 16–21, 2024, has finalized its field.
The 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams competing in the Grand Slam of Curling’s fourth event of the season were revealed on Thursday.
Teams were invited according to the WCF world team standings, with one seat set aside for the HearingLife Tour Challenge Tier 2 winners of this season in each division. The winners were South Korea’s Team Kim in the women’s competition and the United States’ Team Casper in the men’s division at Niagara Falls, Ontario, in October.
Team Bottcher and Team Fujisawa, the previous Co-op Canadian Open winners, are back. At the Camrose, Alberta, event last year, Bottcher defeated Team Edin 5-3 in front of family and friends, and Fujisawa defeated Team Einarson 5-3 as well to become the first Japanese club to win the series.
After winning three straight Grand Slam men’s titles to begin the season, Team Retornaz is now aiming to make history by becoming the first Italian club to win four straight titles in the series in a single season.
Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ will begin airing the broadcast on January 18.
