Due to their gaming, the Lions sacked a number of players
It seems that there was a lot of gambling going on within the Lions organization the previous season.
Apart from the shocking news that four Lions players have been suspended for gaming, ESPN also claims that a number of staff members in different sectors of the team were let go last month for breaking the gambling policy.
When at the team facilities or traveling for team business, employees of NFL teams are prohibited from gambling on anything at all, including NFL games, the draft, postseason honors, and anything else NFL-related. Which particular rule the Lions employees broke is unclear.
Regarding the dismissed employees, the Lions have remained silent. They did declare that they will work with wide receivers Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams, who were each given six-game suspensions, and that they have released cornerback C.J. Moore and wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who were both suspended for the whole 2023 season due to gambling.
NFL players and workers are in charge of their own behavior, and the leagues have not indicated that the Lions club would be disciplined. But the fact that so many players and staff members believed they could get away with breaking one of the most basic NFL rules speaks poorly of the Lions as a club and the top levels of team leadership.
