The 49ers Share Their Method for Stopping Detroit Lions Quarterback Jared Goff
When he was the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, they used to play him twice a season. He will now be their opponent on Sunday in the NFC Championship game against the Detroit Lions.
Here are the things that Nick Bosa and Kyle Shanahan stated on Wednesday regarding Goff.
SHANAHAN: “I believe he is showcasing some of his Los Angeles-related work. In Jared’s case, he performed at an MVP-caliber level in 2017 and 2018. Jared is a very accurate quarterback who can play at a high level. He will always find the place when given a good plan and surround himself with good people. He’ll gash you if you sit and make things simple for him. Whether it was with the Rams or Detroit, I’ve witnessed it repeatedly. It makes him a challenge. He may quickly make you look foolish, so you better be on your game.”
BOSA: “It’s the same person. He was a terrific player in Los Angeles and Detroit. It is evident that applying pressure to him is crucial. It’s difficult because of his excellent offensive line, but when you cover his initial few reads and hit him a few times, things start to get better.”
TRANSLATION: Goff is soft because he is a good thrower when he has time and room to throw, but he also avoids contact. And after a few encounters with you, he will give in.
The 49ers only need to hit him.
