Former All-CNY quarterback to work as offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals
The next offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals has apparently been chosen, and he is from Central New York.
Dan Pitcher, a native of Cortland, will advance from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator (OC) following Brian Callahan’s departure to take a head coaching job with the Tennessee Titans, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
The #Bengals have reportedly hired QBs coach Dan Pitcher to be their offensive coordinator (OC), which is a logical pick to replace OC Brian Callahan.
The work he did with Jake Browning and Joe Burrow was particularly noteworthy. He was the most well-liked OC, along with Zac Robinson.
Pitcher joined the team in 2016 as an offensive assistant to former head coach Marvin Lewis, and he has been Cincinnati’s quarterbacks coach under head coach Zac Taylor since 2020.
Since the Bengals selected Joe Burrow first overall in the 2020 draft, pitcher and Burrow have collaborated closely. In addition, pitcher contributed to the development of Jake Browning, who replaced Burrow at quarterback following the latter’s injury in a Week 11 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Browning tore a ligament in his right wrist.
Pitcher was named All-Central New York while playing quarterback for Cortland High School in the early 2000s.
He attended Division I Colgate for a short time after graduating from high school before joining the Cortland State football team in 2008. Between 2010 and 2011, he guided the Red Dragons to a 19-4 overall record. In 2010, his squad advanced to the Division III Tournament’s second round.
Before having the chance to sign with the Bengals in 2016, Pitcher worked as a scout for the Indianapolis Colts for four years following his graduation from college.
With a 9-8 record at the end of the season, the Bengals finished last in the AFC North. Cincinnati’s offense scored 21.5 points per game, good for 16th place in the NFL, and averaged 318.9 yards per game, ranking 22nd.
Following surgery on November 27, Burrow should be ready for the 2024 season to begin.
