Dan Lanning talks about how near he was to moving from Oregon to Alabama.
Dan Lanning, the head coach of Oregon, was immediately mentioned as a leading contender to succeed Nick Saban after the Alabama head coach chose to resign. Lanning eliminated himself from consideration for the position quite rapidly, but did he give the opportunity any thought?
When Lanning was questioned about it on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast” on Friday, the Oregon coach insisted that he never really considered talking to Alabama about the opening.
According to Lanning, “That was never really a concept in our minds,” via On3’s Nick Schultz. “I adore Coach Saban, and I can’t even begin to express how much he has contributed to my success and career. But by concentrating on where we are now, I believe we can make Oregon the finest team in college football.
Lanning was reportedly Alabama’s top target following Saban’s retirement announcement. But since the Oregon coach swiftly put an end to any potential interest, it doesn’t seem like the two have spoken again. Instead, the Crimson Tide turned to Kalen DeBoer, the Washington coach.
Lanning, a former graduate assistant under Nick Saban at Alabama, is 22-5 through two seasons at Oregon. He’s right about the program’s enormous potential, and kudos to him for wanting to see it through to the end.
Jim Harbaugh will be joined by one of his best Michigan coaches when he joins the Los Angeles Chargers.
Sam Webb of 247 Sports reports that Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter informed a number of Wolverines defensive players that he was going to Los Angeles with Harbaugh. Since 2022, Minter has served as Michigan’s defensive coordinator under Harbaugh.
This is not shocking at all because Minter was immediately identified as one of the coaches who might accompany Harbaugh to the NFL. Since joining the Michigan defense, which is the core of the team that won the championship this year, he has received a lot of accolades for his efforts with the unit. He previously worked as a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2017 to 2020; therefore, this is not his first NFL position.
Sherrone Moore, the offensive coordinator who was elevated to head coach to succeed Jim Harbaugh, will undoubtedly remain in his position. One of his first big decisions will be how he replaces Minter on his staff.
Sherrone Moore was named Michigan’s next head football coach on Friday. The announcement has already prompted a social media response from the incoming Wolverines head coach.
“I feel so fortunate to be a member of this amazing university! eager to carry on with what we’ve created! Moore contributed to X.
Moore has used the phrase “smash” to energise his team. That is related to his desire for his offensive line or offense to destroy their opponents.
During the 2023 national championship season, Moore was the offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator for the Wolverines. Additionally, he was 4-0 in his four games as Michigan’s acting head coach in Jim Harbaugh’s place.
After the season, Michigan was aware that Harbaugh was likely to head to the NFL. They announced Moore as the program’s 21st head coach on Friday, putting into effect the backup plan they had been developing in case Harbaugh left.
