Will the Lions ever win a Super Bowl?
One may argue that no NFL fan base has ever been as tortured as the one in Motor City. Although the city is undoubtedly passionate about its team, this enthusiasm hasn’t translated into success on the pitch.
However, there’s something odd about the 2023 Lions. With just three years as head coach, Campbell has completely transformed the team, and Detroit is now only one win away from the championship game.
Even yet, Detroit owns an NFL championship, even if the team has never won a Super Bowl. The Lions won four NFL championship games between 1935 and 1957, in the era before the Super Bowl.
With a victory versus the 49ers, the Lions have an opportunity to end the league’s longest streak of no Super Bowl appearances.
Detroit has never attended a championship game. Their run now stands at 57 years, with the possibility of reaching 58 should the club fail to defeat San Francisco in the 2024 NFC title game.
The Browns, who have also never attended a Super Bowl, are tied with the Lions. The three years of the Browns’ drought, from 1996 to 1998, were spent with the team not playing.
