The 49ers were fired by the NFL following their embarrassing performance against the Detroit Lions.
Steve Wilks, the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, didn’t mince words about his team’s embarrassing performance against the Detroit Lions.
Wilks issued the warning in the hopes that his team will be able to recover in the Super Bowl—the biggest event of the NFL season.
Prior to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on February 11, Wilks expressed his disgust with his squad’s performance while speaking with the media. The team was up against Dan Campbell’s Lions.
We discussed it as a team, and collectively, I can tell you it’s unacceptable, Wilks said.
With the knowledge that stopping Patrick Mahomes would be the defense’s task in a week, Steve Wilks placed his squad on notice.
It didn’t meet our expectations. Those people are aware of and comprehend that. Wilks continued, To be honest, it was embarrassing.
Throughout the first half, San Francisco’s defense took blindside hits and nearly stopped the Niners from scoring.
Detroit led 24-7 at the half after scoring on multiple chunk-yardage plays in the first half, including a 42-yard run by wide receiver Jameson Williams of the Lions.

Fortunately, San Francisco’s offense roared back and the defense emerged from its slump, allowing the 49ers to score 27 points in a row in the second half.
Mr. Irrelevant had to put on an almost flawless second half to prevent the Niners from further embarrassing themselves, even if Niners quarterback Brock Purdy continues to face criticism both inside and outside the league. Before halftime, Purdy threw an interception. Purdy finished 13 of 16 for 174 yards and a touchdown after the half.
The NFC Championship title was won by San Francisco over this year’s Cinderella team, who were defeated 34–31..
Aware of the formidable combination of Mahomes and Swiftie Nation, the Niners defense must perform flawlessly on Sunday or risk losing their souls.
