Billy Donovan discovered William is not his son.
Billy Donovan, the head coach of the Bulls, has confirmed that William is not his biological son.
However, the seasoned coach is going through an adjustment period that involves getting to know a new organization, a new city, a new management group, and new players—all of which are happening during a pandemic.
Donovan played for 19 seasons in Florida before entering the NBA and playing for Oklahoma City for five seasons. He is therefore accustomed to stability.
However, a coach’s existence can be ephemeral by nature. Donovan, who says he maintained regular touch with Marc Eversley and Artūras Karnišovas after being hired and before moving to Chicago, is unconcerned by it all.
“Clearly, a significant amount of time was dedicated to developing a coaching staff and addressing that,” Donovan stated. “I did have an opportunity to visit during the Bulls’ brief (September) bubble burst. Obviously, the protocols prevented me from really doing anything. However, the change has gone really well. The individuals inside the organization have been excellent. It’s been a great pleasure.
Chicago is undoubtedly a fantastic city. It has been a pleasure working with the guys. So far, it’s been quite great for me.
Additionally, Donovan appointed his son as assistant video coordinator. “I know my wife is delighted about it,” he joked. Billy Donovan III, who had worked for the G League’s Austin Spurs and as the head coach of a high school in Florida, filled Monty Williams’ position with the Phoenix Suns.
Regarding his kid, Donovan remarked, “I really wanted him in coaching to—and he’s always wanted to do it—just kind of work his way through.” “He began his career as an assistant varsity coach, head assistant varsity coach, and assistant JV coach. That was what he did. He later went on to become the head coach of a high school before joining the G League as an assistant coach and working in video. Then, in Phoenix, Monty Williams was gracious enough to hire him. While he was in college, I had the chance to coach him, and it has been a pleasure working with him.
Donovan mentioned that Karnišovas’s ability to sell a collaboration was one of the job’s most alluring features when he was hired. Garrett Temple disclosed on Sunday that Donovan had been contacted to assist in signing him as a free agent.
Is this the collaboration that Donovan had in mind, now that he has gone through both a draft and a free agency procedure with his new employers?
It has been quite enjoyable. Donovan stated, “Those folks truly, really asked my input on various matters and kept me updated.” It goes without saying that I had to spend a good deal of time getting to know our team. Make an effort to see some movies. Marc and Artūras had me deeply concerned with Patrick’s plight. I say extensively involved, but it’s more like giving me clips and asking me what I think of them. We took a seat and discussed the document extensively. I was grateful that they involved me in the procedure.
