Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce declares his retirement

On Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders declared the release of veteran cornerback Marcus Peters and safety Roderic Teamer.

Paul Gutierrez of ESPN reports that Teamer was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with misdemeanor DUI and speeding.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, Peters is expected to receive bonuses from the team for $1.5 million, although they won’t be given out right away. Additionally, he was benched during the middle of Las Vegas’ 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

At his news conference after the game, Pierce refrained from giving any details on the situation, stating only that the two-time All-Pro’s benching in the second half was a “coach’s decision.”

It seems that the exchange on the sidelines was the straw that broke the camel’s back.The Raiders were anticipated to let go of Peters, who “was almost cut earlier this season,” according to Tafur’s report on Sunday night.

Since 2019, when he recorded an NFL-high three pick-sixes and five interceptions on his way to his third Pro Bowl selection, the 30-year-old’s stock has been slowly declining. His entire 2021 season was lost due to an ACL tear, which undoubtedly affected his play as well.

According to Pro Football Reference, Peters gave up a 66.1 percent completion rate and a 103.2 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks in his 12 starts with the Raiders. Additionally, he has the seventh-highest missed tackle percentage (20.4%) in the league.

Given his reputation, Peters might be able to establish himself as a postseason contender before the season ends. It wouldn’t be shocking, though, if teams chose to hold off on giving him another chance until the offseason due to his rather limited market.

Teamer, meanwhile, has six appearances this season and four tackles. Following a hamstring injury in Week 6, the 26-year-old was placed on injured reserve on October 18; however, he was cleared to return on November 15.
