The Ohio State head coach Ryan Day salary has been withdrawn.
If Neal had made the original 53-man roster, the tender would have meant he would have received a salary of $2.67 million for the 2023 campaign. After putting Neal on the tender, Seattle would not get any money if he signed with another team, but they would be able to match any offer Neal would have received on the open market.
Following the addition of Wagner this week, OvertheCap.com reports that Seattle’s overall cap space was down to $4.1 million, but its effective cap space—which accounts for the money required to sign draft picks—was $5.5 million in the red. Seattle currently holds 10 picks, including the first-round selections five and twenty.
In free agency, Seattle strengthened its defensive depth even further by bringing in former Giant Julian Love, who signed a two-year deal worth up to $12 million.
Love joined a group that already included two of the team’s biggest salary cap numbers for 2023: Quandre Diggs and veteran Jamal Adams, at $18.10 million and $18.11 million, respectively.
Adams sustained a knee injury in the season opener against Denver last year, and it is still unknown whether he will be ready to play.
However, Schneider stated that “we’ve had good reports” on Adams’ development during this week’s league meetings in Phoenix. Pete Carroll, the coach, expressed optimism that Adams will be prepared for the commencement of training camp.
If Adams isn’t prepared for the season, Love, who made 16 starts for the Giants the previous year, would be the safe haven. If so, the Seahawks plan to put Adams in a de facto weakside linebacker role and frequently use three-safety setups. Love has served in that capacity before.
Despite the fact that Adams’ injury and large salary raised some questions about his future following Love’s signing, Carroll and Schneider clarified that the two matters had nothing to do with one another.
Schneider claimed that Jamal had nothing to do with the Julian situation. It’s fantastic that we have someone who can step in for Jamal if he couldn’t leave straight away. What a fantastic player. But Jamal had nothing to do with that. After once more beginning the 2020 campaign on the practice squad, Neal was added to the active roster in September after being added to the roster for the final three games of that campaign. He remained on the active roster for the remainder of that season as well as the years 2021 and 2022.
Due to injuries, Neal, 27, steadily established himself in three-safety packages and started nine games in 2020 and 2021, primarily replacing Adams. Last year, when Adams was injured once more, Neal started ten games.
