Steve Belichick Discusses His Father Bill Belichick’s Recovery Following the Patriots’ Loss
Bill Belichick’s son has already landed a new job after leaving the New England Patriots, and the coach is waiting for his next coaching opportunity.
Steve Belichick is leaving the Patriots to coach college football after more than ten years of service, during which he held several positions as a defensive position coach. He is moving to Washington to become the defensive coordinator on the staff of former New England assistant Jedd Fisch.
Over the years, the younger Belichick has made very few appearances in the media. He spoke about his career transition and shared some New England anecdotes on Friday’s episode of the Green Light podcast, which is hosted by former Patriots defensive lineman Chris Long. Naturally, once the team fired Belichick and he was unable to find another head coaching position in 2024, Long had to inquire about his father’s well-being.
“I believe he is competent. Regarding his father, Steve Belichick advised him to “let the stuff roll off your back and move forward.” “Unless we lose and he needs to get on some players, he doesn’t dwell, but ultimately you have to turn the page. To be honest, I wasn’t particularly involved in any of that; we each did our own thing, and that was that.
Although Bill Belichick is rumored to be looking for work in 2025, his son makes a joke about him possibly doing some media work during the year off by suggesting that he might be a regular on Long’s show. The two talked about how his strong performance on College GameDay for the Army-Navy game in December showed that he is more of a person and a funny guy than he has shown in his 24 seasons with the Patriots.
Steve Belichick anticipates that his father will continue to be heavily involved in breaking down the game, possibly to Washington’s advantage at some point this year, aside from possible media possibilities and a brief stay in Nantucket.
“Criticizing football would still be his pastime,” he stated. You know, he was thrilled to see me since he had the opportunity to assess the players and the strategy the previous year. He’ll definitely come out here to do some stuff at some point. The man only has a passion for football.
