Brian Kelly has made his exit known.
Brian Kelly, the head coach of LSU, has announced his resignation.
In his first remarks to the public since resigning from the same position at LSU two months ago, Mike Denbrock, the offensive coordinator for Notre Dame, stated that he has no ill will towards Tigers coach Brian Kelly.
Denbrock stated at the indoor practice facility on Friday, “I don’t believe he comprehended it, but I don’t know that he was really thrilled with my decision.” “He is aware of the causes. I think Brian is really admirable. I will always see him as a buddy.
After leading the Tigers to the national scoring lead in the previous fall season for two years at LSU behind Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, Denbrock had agreed to an extension that was still pending approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
“It was rather near,” 60-year-old Denbrock remarked. “The conditions of a new three-year deal had been agreed upon. I believe that it was awaiting board permission and other similar matters. It just so happened that the time was favorable to us.
Following the hiring of former Irish offensive coordinator Gerad Parker as head coach at Troy, Marcus Freeman, the head coach of the Irish, intervened with what turned out to be a $9 million, four-year contract. From 2017 until 2021, Denbrock and Freeman collaborated as coordinators at the University of Cincinnati.
Citing a “real belief in Marcus Freeman and his vision and what he believes in,” Denbrock stated that until the events of December, he had not given thought to a third try at Notre Dame.
He remarked, “Everything was kind of settling in.” I had spoken with a few other prospects, but they didn’t feel like the appropriate moves for me because I was content with my current situation and our home. We were simply chatting back and forth until the phone rang, and Freeman brought up the prospect when it did.
At Freeman’s suggestion, Denbrock—who had previously attended Notre Dame for two terms, from 2002 to 2004 and 2010 to 16—discussed the notion with his wife, Dianne.
“Until a week or so passed, it became a little more serious, and then it got extremely bad,” Denbrock said. “I didn’t know truly how serious it was at that point.” After speaking with Jack Swarbrick, the athletic director of Notre Dame, and a few other people, we decided that this was the best course of action for our family.
Regarding a relationship that began in 1987 at Division II Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan, with Kelly, Denbrock stated that it hasn’t changed.
