    Mavericks’ Luka Doncic admits a crucial mistake that led to Max Strus’ buzzer-beater.

    Even though he scored 45 points, the Mavericks star sort of took the responsibility for their heartbreaking loss to the Cavaliers on himself.

    For a brief moment on Tuesday night, it appeared as though Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks would pull off a victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers. After cutting their defense open for 45 points, the Mavericks star forced the Cavs to focus on Doncic, and the Slovenian gave them a 119-118 lead with a nice toss to PJ Washington. The goal was to completely ruin the Cavaliers, especially because they were out of timeouts to move the ball forward.

    But Max Strus thought otherwise. After going on a tear in the fourth quarter to help the Cavs stay up with the Mavericks, Strus finished off his heroics in the closing minutes with a ridiculous game-winning shot from beyond halfcourt that stunned Mavs supporters worldwide.

    Even though Strus should get all the glory for winning the game for the Cavs, Luka Doncic felt it was his fault for playing a poor defense against the scorching sniper during that crucial last possession.

    “I was at fault for that. I ought to have exerted more effort. According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Afseth, Doncic stated during his postgame news conference, “I was the first one; therefore, that was my fault.” Amazing shot. I don’t have much to say. Max really killed us in the fourth quarter, but, oh, that shot was amazing.
