Neuer: I Took a Risk on Arsenal’s Third Goal
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has admitted that he took a risk on the third goal conceded against Arsenal, attempting to play as a sweeper to prevent a one-on-one situation with Gabriel Martinelli. “I saw Martinelli running towards Kimmich. He is a bit faster than him, so it would’ve been a 1v1 and a big chance. I tried to anticipate it, but he [Martinelli] took a touch, which was crucial – and in the end I wasn’t in the right position,” Neuer said.
Neuer acknowledged that his decision to come out of the box was a gamble, but he felt it was necessary given the game situation. “We had to take more risks at that moment in the game. The pass was good, it wasn’t too long,” he added.
The third goal was a significant blow to Bayern Munich, as it ultimately led to their 3-1 defeat. Neuer took responsibility for the mistake, saying, “I knew I was taking a big risk
