Dave Roberts of the Dodgers discusses his reasons for firing his best player.
MLB: With three games remaining, the San Francisco Giants made the unexpected decision to fire Gabe Kapler.
Dave Roberts, manager of the Dodgers, responded directly to the speculation that Clayton Kershaw would retire following the MLB 2023 season. The Dodgers want to win 100 games as they prepare for the postseason.
Clayton Kershaw’s retirement is not on Dave Roberts’ mind.
Roberts had a press conference. When Clayton is this good for this long, there’s a certain amount of hype that goes along with it. It’s not his true nature; he’s just a really modest guy. I consider it, then. I believe there is a suggestion that this may be his final regular-season game with the Dodgers.”
With the departure of Urias, the Mexican pitcher who was supposed to lead the Dodgers to a World Series championship alongside Clayton Kershaw, the organization is now dealing with a difficult issue in the bullpen due to charges of domestic abuse.
Roberts added There’s no reason to talk about retiring, and I believe that’s how Clayton would have wanted it. We seem to be entirely preoccupied with the postseason at the moment. Robert also talked about how Kershaw had a fantastic outing on Saturday, pitching three innings with just one run allowed and three strikeouts.
After being questioned about whether or not Kershaw’s game on Saturday was his final regular-season game, Roberts spoke about his retirement and said that nothing has been confirmed. “I don’t let my thoughts wander too much into that since I don’t know that. But, as you can imagine, we’ll give it credit when it occurs, which is inevitable. However, I don’t believe Clayton wants that.
