Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals has announced his departure due to a wrist injury.
NEW DELHI: After guiding the Bengals on a game-winning drive in the second quarter, quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals left the game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night due to a right wrist injury. With 5:49 remaining in the second quarter, Burrow led the Bengals to a 10-7 lead with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon. That’s when the injury happened.
Burrow was clearly in discomfort, and it looked like his right pinky was bent abnormally. He entered the medical tent and stayed there for a few minutes before heading to the changing room.
Burrow had a strong showing before leaving, finishing 11 of 17 throws for 101 yards and Mixon’s touchdown. Burrow appeared to be getting into a groove, leading the Bengals on a drive that resulted in a touchdown and a lead against the Ravens, when the injury happened.
In Burrow’s absence, Cincinnati’s backup quarterback, Jake Browning, took over on the following offensive series. Though Burrow’s dubious categorization raised doubts about the extent of his wrist injury, the Bengals were still optimistic about his return.
The Bengals and Ravens were playing a fiercely contested game, and Cincinnati suffered a major setback when their starting quarterback was lost. The Bengals’ chances of winning the game and the severity of Burrow’s injury would be crucial factors in their efforts to stay competitive in the AFC North.
