Duffey and Baldelli, twins, are suspended for hurling objects at Mercedes.
In a series of events that spurred discussion about the significance of baseball’s unwritten rules, manager Rocco Baldelli was given a one-game suspension on Thursday, and Minnesota Twins reliever Tyler Duffey was given a three-game suspension.
Baldelli will be unavailable for the Twins’ doubleheader matchup with the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.
After Duffey filed an appeal against his suspension, the Angels hammered him for four hits and three runs in the opening game’s fifth inning.
Tuesday night, in the seventh inning, Duffey threw behind Mercedes and was tossed.
A day before, the Twins were leading Chicago by eleven runs, and they were reacting to Mercedes’ home run on a 3-0 pitch. On Monday, White Sox manager Tony La Russa chastised his rookie slugger, labeling him “clueless” for attempting to get a hit in that circumstance.
Additionally, La Russa, 76, expressed his satisfaction with the Twins’ Tuesday activities. A number of White Sox players voiced their support for Mercedes and their opposition to the traditional values upheld by their management and the Twins.
