Jason Licht General Manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Just Announced His Departure
Jason Licht, the general manager of the Tampa Buccaneers, made light of Baker Mayfield’s remarks and immediately apologized. Only a few days after the quarterback earned a lucrative contract with the Bucs, their top leader sarcastically declared that he is a “10 on the p***k scale.”
Prior to the formal start of free agency, Mayfield committed to a three-year contract worth up to $115 million, with a $50 million Florida guarantee. He had a fantastic season and successfully filled Tom Brady’s shoes before this agreement.
The Buccaneers held a news conference on Wednesday to reveal Mayfield’s new contract. Licht apologized to Bucs vice president of communications Nelson Luis after jokingly describing the 28-year-old as a “10 on the p**** scale” in response to a question about how tough the player is.
The amusing addition that Mayfield “is an offensive lineman in a quarterback’s body” was made by Licht. He was undoubtedly complimenting Mayfield’s aggressive playing style and positive attitude at the position with these amusing remarks.
As Kirk Cousins receives a new weapon, the Atlanta Falcons’ free agency spending is broken down.
Jonathan Owens, the spouse of Simone Biles, earns a massive NFL contract and switches teams.
Mayfield set career highs in passing yards (ranked ninth in the NFL), touchdowns (ranked seventh), and completion percentage during his debut campaign with the Bucs. According to the Mirror US, the former Oklahoma player completed 64.3% of his throws for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 94.6 quarterback rating.
Mayfield would have been one of the most sought-after free agents if he hadn’t signed a new contract with the Bucs before the legal tampering period began. The Buccaneers won the NFC South under his direction, and they also surprised the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.
Mayfield led the team to their third Divisional Round in the past 20 years, despite a close defeat to the Detroit Lions. Finalized with the signing of All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and Mike Evans’ mega-money contract, Mayfield’s deal gives the Buccaneers options moving forward, particularly in light of the increased competition following the Atlanta Falcons’ acquisition of Kirk Cousins.

Licht said of Mayfield, “Baker is the ultimate competitor and has shown excellent leadership and resilience on the field across his six-year career.” He said that Mayfield’s tenacity and unshakable dedication to his teammates were the reasons behind their victory the previous year.
“Baker’s enthusiasm and energy are contagious throughout the squad, and he will be instrumental in sustaining the winning culture that has been developed here. As we continue to chase another Super Bowl, we are all excited to see Baker improve on his success from the previous year.”
Though their futures were unclear going into the summer, Mayfield, Evans, Winfield Jr., and veteran linebacker Lavonte David were all signed by Licht and the Bucs front office. Following years of playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns, it seems that Mayfield has settled down in Tapa.
