Pitcher Tyler Duffey of the Minnesota Twins will miss three games due to his suspension.
Pitcher Tyler Duffey was dismissed, while Rocco Baldelli was ejected for protesting, according to The Canadian Press.
The MLB said on Thursday that Tyler Duffey, a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, will miss three games after “intentionally sending a fastball behind” Chicago White Sox player Yermin Mercedes on Tuesday night.
Duffey may participate in Thursday’s doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels and is eligible to file an appeal.
In addition, Rocco Baldelli, the manager, has been suspended for one game for “duffey’s acts.” In the nightcap on Thursday, he will serve his ban.
The event took place a day after Mercedes launched a solo home run in the ninth inning of Chicago’s 16-4 triumph on Monday night off a 3-0 pitch from Twins infielder Willians Astudillo. Prior to Tuesday’s game, White Sox manager Tony La Russa informed reporters that Mercedes had committed a grave error. However, he later stated that he had no problem with Duffey throwing behind his player.
La Russa stated, “I don’t have an issue with how the Twins handled things.”
La Russa remarked of Mercedes, “That’s basic sportsmanship: respect for the game, respect for your opponent.” “He needs to bear a punishment here within our family since he committed a mistake. Then he will have to deal with a consequence here in our household.”
