The majority of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ free agency window has been devoted to talent retention.
Along with Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans and Antoine Winfield Jr. are all back.
Shaq Barrett is one of those who managed to escape, though. Barrett played a pivotal role for a Super Bowl-winning team during his five seasons in Tampa, when he recorded 45 sacks.
Barrett, who signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins to remain in Florida, is now poised to show that he still has it in him and make the Bucs regret cutting him go.
According to a team transcript, Barrett stated, “I still have a lot to prove,” during a Monday introduction press conference. In particular, being cut by another squad. That alone adds a whole new load of fuel to the fire. I’m sure the Dolphins will be glad they signed me. Tampa would be furious that I left because I’m going to have a tremendous year and our team is going to have incredible success soon.”
After spending four seasons in Denver, Barrett made a name for himself as one of the league’s top pass rushers when he joined the Bucs in 2019. During his five years in Tampa, he was a Pro Bowler twice, the league leader in sacks in a single season once, and the winner of a Super Bowl once.
