Lenny Kravitz and Denzel Washington have been close friends for many years; in fact, the actor once joked that their connection might have gone beyond platonic bounds.
During Kravitz’s Hollywood Walk of Fame induction, the Malcolm X actor paid tribute to his lifelong buddy by giving a speech that focused on the actual definition of friendship. “I checked it out on Webster’s,” stated Washington. “A person one knows and has a bond of affection with, usually without regard to sexual relations.” Washington paused, looked at Kravitz, and then he cheekily went on, “Well,” implying in jest that their friendship might have gone too far. Washington and Kravitz laughed along with the audience.
Steve Nissen, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Oscar winner after he finished his speech. He stated, “Denzel, I have to say, I’ve been doing this for a year, and we’ve never had a speaker mention to sexual relations with the honoree.” We won’t go there, but it normally happens after the wedding.
Washington made jokes on Kravitz’s handshakes strength elsewhere in his remarks. “I always have my eyes open when I shake hands like this with Lenny because once he had a ring on, a thumb ring, and he busted my hand open,” he remarked. He is more than just a brother or a buddy. Even though we don’t look identical, we are twins. We had been close friends for thirty years, akin to a brotherhood.
Washington concluded his statement by saying, “We have been connected together for a long time, dear friends, we are brothers.” “I have never loved a brother as much as I adore Lenny Kravitz. You get more with less, Leonard Albert Kravitz.
