SAD NEWS: Alexander Zverev’s Coco Gauff announced that he plans to retire from tennis due to…
Officials at the Roland Garros Open have come under fire from Alexander Zverev for not allowing him to receive insulin shots on the court during changeovers. The 26-year-old German superstar defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to advance to the round of eight, and he has already secured his spot in the quarterfinals in Paris.
Zverev defeated the Bulgarian 6-1, 6-4, 6-3, but even with the comfortable win, he was not overly happy on Court Philippe-Chatrie.
This is due to Zverev’s need for frequent insulin injections, which he is unable to administer during the French Open in order to manage his Type-1 diabetes.
To keep Zverev’s energy levels stable, the injections make sure sugar is transported from the blood throughout his body.
However, court authorities firmly halted Zverev in his tracks when he tried to take his insulin shot during the break in his bout with Dimitrov.
Rather, he was instructed to leave the court, but Zverev would automatically count that as one of his toilet breaks if he did so.

Players are only allowed to take one, three-minute restroom break every game when the ATP modified its rules in 2021.
However, Zverev’s situation would worsen when he tried to administer the injection outside of the court and was informed that a doctor was the only person qualified to do so.
Zverev countered that he is comfortable and secure administering the shots because he has experience controlling his own health.
During his press conference after the match, he criticized the decision and blasted the French Open officials.
Zverev remarked, “They said I have to leave the court.”
