Denard Robinson, a staffer at Michigan and former Wolverines quarterback, was arrested Monday morning for allegedly driving under the influence, as confirmed by the Ann Arbor Police Department to 247Sports. The 33-year-old Robinson was involved in a single-vehicle crash before his arrest.
Sherrone Moore, the first-year head coach of the Wolverines, stated through a release that Robinson, currently serving as the assistant director of player personnel, will face an indefinite suspension. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will have no further comment at this time,” Moore said in the statement.
Robinson joined former coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff in 2022 and was retained by Moore after Harbaugh’s departure for the NFL this offseason, following the Wolverines’ undefeated season and their first College Football Playoff National Championship win.
Before his tenure at Michigan, Robinson spent three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars in various roles, including offensive quality control coach and scouting assistant. Hailing from Deerfield Beach, Florida, Robinson had a successful football career before transitioning to coaching.
He enrolled at Michigan in 2009, playing sparingly as a freshman before becoming the starting quarterback in his sophomore year. In the 2010 season, Robinson amassed 4,272 yards of total offense and 32 touchdowns, earning accolades such as first-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Most Valuable Player, and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
From 2010 to 2011, Robinson achieved consecutive seasons with over 1,500 yards passing and rushing, making him the first player in NCAA history to accomplish this feat. He also set the NCAA record for most career rushing yards by a quarterback with 4,495, although this record was later surpassed by Navy’s Keenan Reynolds.
Robinson remains Michigan’s all-time leader in single-season total offense, primarily due to his stellar performance in 2010. His dynamic style of play earned him the honor of being the cover athlete on EA Sports’ NCAA Football 14, released in 2013.
