Good News: The New York Giants have officially confirmed the signing of two seasoned NFL players.
Giants bolster their offensive line by adding two veterans.
The New York Giants are strengthening the depth of their offensive line by adding two free agents to their roster. The Giants acquired veteran offensive linemen Austin Schlottman and Aaron Stinnie on Friday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Giants show off LG The 30-year-old offensive guard John Stinnie was a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, making 11 starts. He became a member of the team in 2018, and since then, he has started 12 regular season games and 3 postseason games, including Super Bowl LV for the Buccaneers.
In 2023, Stinnie participated in 717 offensive snaps. He surrendered two sacks and 29 pressures in the course of the season, earning a 56.6 overall Pro Football Focus rating. Stinnie started all 11 games as left guard in the previous campaign. He will bring depth to the position along with the Giants’ big free agent addition, Jon Runyan, who is anticipated to start at left guard.
Schlottmann is another inside offensive lineman that Big Blue is adding to its roster for depth. Though he is 28 years old, he has more playing experience than Stinnie. Schlottmann has played in 67 games and had fourteen starts throughout his five years in the NFL.
After making seven starts in his first two seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2019, Schlottmann went to the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. He initiated three of the competitions in 2023.
Last season, Schlottmann saw 249 snaps of action and recorded a 62.6 overall PFF rating while allowing seven pressures and one sack. Like Stinnie, Schlottmann should be viewed as a reserve who will back up other New York offensive line starters, like second-year center John Michael Schmitz.
This offseason, the Giants’ primary objective was to strengthen their offensive line. They experienced too many early-season injuries the previous season, which hindered them throughout. Two solid veterans, Stinnie and Schlottman, should help prevent the Giants from finding themselves in another perilous predicament.
