SAD NEWS: Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe revealed his intention to step down because of…
The time after Nick Saban is now over at Alabama, as former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer takes over in Tuscaloosa.
With regard to their new roster, the Crimson Tide need senior quarterback Jalen Milroe, who was the team’s main starter the previous season and helped Alabama go 12-2 and to the College Football Playoff before losing to Michigan in the semifinals, to advance to the College Football Playoffs the following year.
Host RJ Young discussed Milroe’s potential with sports media personality Bomani Jones on the most recent episode of “The No. 1 College Football Show with RJ Young.” Jones compared Milroe’s development to that of a former Texas star.
Bomani Jones on the SEC: Oklahoma, Texas, and can the quarterback for Alabama advance?
“Jayden Daniels in 2022 was a superior player than Jalen Milroe in 2023, in my opinion, but large offseason jumps can happen. We’ve seen it occur, and I’m not even sure how great of a leap he needs to take—I think he just needs to make some adjustments,” Jones remarked. “The difference in Vince Young’s passing ability between the 2004 and 2005 seasons is yet another excellent illustration of this.”
Milroe completed 65.8% of his passes for 2,834 yards, 23 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 172.2 passer rating in the previous campaign. In addition, he ran for two touchdowns and 531 yards. He played in four games for the Crimson Tide the previous season, starting one of them in lieu of Bryce Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner.
Daniels, a 23-year-old, had a quiet 2022 rookie campaign in Baton Rouge before winning the 2023 Heisman Trophy with LSU. In Thursday’s 2024 NFL Draft, Daniels is anticipated to be chosen with the second overall choice by the Washington Commanders.
Young, on the other hand, improved his passer rating by 35.5 points and passed for 1,187 more yards and 14 more touchdowns from 2004 to 2005. Young also ran for more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in both seasons, helping Texas capture the 2005 National Championship. In the 2006 NFL Draft, he was chosen with the third overall pick by The Tennessee Titans.
