MISSION POSSIBLE: As Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes guarantees team plays in Super Bowl 2025, runs key play
After the 2003–04 New England Patriots, Kansas City became the first club in 20 years to win the Super Bowl twice. Despite some significant injuries and a receiving corps that lagged behind other contenders, the squad managed to pull it off.
But Kansas City returned to the top once more, and in the eras of Mahomes, Andy Reid, and Travis Kelce, the team now owns three Super Bowl rings. In addition to some new offensive pieces, the future Hall of Famers are all expected to return for the 2024 season, which gives the Chiefs a lot of confidence to run it back.
In an interview with the “Impaulsive” podcast, Mahomes virtually assured listeners that the Chiefs would participate in Super Bowl LIX in 2019. The quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs stated that his team will use the now-famous “Corndog” play once more against whoever they play in Super Bowl LIX.
We will therefore repeat the process in New Orleans the following year. Place it on the table. We intend to repeat the action. I’ll tell you right now.
When Kansas City uses the “Corndog” in the Super Bowl, everything goes perfectly. It was the game-winning play in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers after they scored a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
To say that Mahomes will ensure the Chiefs return to the Super Bowl is undoubtedly audacious. Kansas City has reason for confidence despite capturing the Lombardi Trophy three times in the last five years and making four Super Bowl appearances.
Mahomes did not guarantee a three-peat, but there is a difference between this and the Chiefs quarterback stating his club will play in Super Bowl LIX. Even so, we’re willing to wager that a quarterback who is confident enough to secure a Super Bowl spot will also think his team will win that particular game.
