Baker mayfield has finally agreed to the $137 million agreement
Brady’s NFL retirement was made public in February; thus, Mayfield will get a chance to challenge Kyle Trask for the starting quarterback spot with the Bucs. Executives on the Bucs, who selected Trask in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, have given him excellent feedback. General manager Jason Licht was excited about “his receiving the opportunity to be the starter” during the combine.
Or maybe not. Mayfield will, at the very least, bring some experience to Tampa Bay’s quarterback room. The 27-year-old will be playing for his fourth team after three seasons. Four years after Cleveland selected Mayfield with the first overall pick in the 2018 draft, the Browns traded him to the Carolina Panthers.
Mayfield encountered challenges during his stay in Carolina. He was 0–5 in six starts with a 74.4 passer rating, completing only 57.8% of his passes for 1,313 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions. Mayfield was benched following an ankle injury he suffered in his final game as a Panther.
Following his release from the Panthers, Mayfield inked a deal to play with the Rams in early December. Just a few days after relocating to Los Angeles, he led the Rams to an amazing comeback victory over the Raiders, throwing the game-winning touchdown pass in the final seconds to finish off a 98-yard drive.
In the end, Mayfield performed a little bit better for the Rams. He completed 63.6% of his passes for 850 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, and an 86.4 passer rating in five games.
