GOOD NEWS: As Fernando Alonso and his wife Raquel del Rosario welcome a new baby…….
Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula One champion, has said that he is retiring from the sport while Aston Martin is still fielding top drivers.
In a recent interview with his sponsors, Bang & Olufsen, the Spanish driver discussed his much-discussed retirement. He said that, although he had intended to retire a decade ago, he now assures supporters that he is not seeking to do so anytime soon.
This season, Alonso has finished third in all three races. Currently, he sits third with 45 points in the drivers’ championship, trailing only Sergio Perez’s 54 points and ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s 38 points.
Alonso had the following response when asked when he might choose to give up on the sport:
“I’d also like to know the response.
“My goal when I joined Formula One was to stay there for seven or eight years. After I won the two titles, I decided that I might race for another year or two.
“Although I’ve had the longest Formula One career to date, I’m still young, driven, and enjoying every day of it.” So, yes, I still have a few years left, and hopefully one day I’ll be a title contender.”
“Certainly, a third-world title is the goal, but for the time being, I believe we need to stay grounded. The team’s only goal is to have a successful season. They had a lot of difficulties in 2022, so I believe we should, as they say, “walk before we run.”
“I believe that the goal of the 2023 campaign is to improve, get to know the automobile better, and launch a new project right away, and that’s where we are right now. We should strive for race victories and more podiums, but I believe that in order to contend for the championship, the team needs to be somewhat adjusted.”
