The Yankees saw Isiah Kiner-Falefa sign with the Blue Jays, so they decided to add his name to their utility infield mix.
A source confirmed that Kevin Smith, who was non-tendered by the A’s earlier in the offseason, signed a minor league contract with the Yankees.
Smith, who was raised in East Greenbush, close to Albany, announced his transfer by writing on X that he was “coming home for 2024.”

Despite having some success in the minor leagues, 27-year-old Smith was part of the package Oakland acquired when it sent Matt Chapman to Toronto in a money dump. However, Smith hasn’t been able to hit in the major leagues.
In portions of three seasons with the A’s and Blue Jays, he has a.516 OPS.
He usually played shortstop and third base.
