Despite differing views on Daniel Jones, the Giants have said that, as their starter enters his sixth season with the team, they will not choose a different quarterback.
Due to injuries, Jones had a challenging season in 2023, but he performed well enough in 2022—including winning the club a playoff game—to earn a sizable contract extension.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports developed a starting quarterback power ranking that prioritizes the team’s current standing over “the wider picture.” Jones is ranked 32nd out of quarterbacks who have never seen an NFL snap by him. Players ranked higher than the Giants starter were ones who might not even start in 2024.
Raan wrote, “The Daniel Jones slander is out of control,” on Wednesday. I was in the top ten two years ago (6th in QBR). Is he currently ranked lower in his career than all rookie quarterbacks and backups, despite having four starts in 2023? To think of him as a complete scrub is ridiculous. He missed the then-rookie record in 2019 by three touchdown passes, but sixteen months prior in a playoff victory, he was almost perfect. Last season was a complete bust for a number of reasons, including his terrible play and missing most of those four starts with Andrew Thomas and Saquon. On the other hand, assuming that he can’t play is entirely false. The pendulum swung too far.
