The way that Pickett handled the news that Russell Wilson was joining the team at the close of the previous season, according to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, served as the impetus for this trade.

Supporting a bridge veteran who is nearing the end of his career is one thing, but now Pickett is going to Philadelphia, where the fans and media are considerably worse than in Pittsburgh, to support quarterback Jalen Hurts, an MVP candidate who received a huge contract in 2023.

It’s impossible to say if Pickett would have advanced to quarterback number one after Wilson’s Steelers contract expired, but he would have at least had a chance, something he won’t get in Philadelphia.

There is no place for a quarterback with a fragile ego in Philadelphia. Pickett is going to be devoured.
