Sean McVay said he signed a contract extension this summer. According to him, Les Snead’s deal with the Rams is still being worked out.
McVay stated the Rams will announce his deal when he and general manager Les Snead came to an agreement.
Thanks to McVay’s coaching, the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI to win their first championship since 1999. It was the team’s second trip to the Super Bowl in five years under McVay’s direction. His previous contract was set to expire in 2023.
There were also speculations circulating that McVay might prefer to switch from coaching to broadcasting. On February 25, McVay did, however, tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he was committed to helping the Rams win the Super Bowl and was not looking to pursue any broadcast opportunities.
McVay didn’t grumble even if it took some time for his new contract to come together. In response to a query concerning his conversations with the Rams at the start of training camp, he told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, “We’re in a good situation.” Before the regular season starts, an extension is “more than likely” to happen, according to McVay.
McVay joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 as an offensive assistant. After two years, he began his rise through the coaching ranks with the Washington team, where he was the tight ends coach for two years before being promoted to offensive coordinator from 2014 to 2016.
Despite the fact that this contract keeps him in his position for a few more years, McVay is aware that his time as head coach is limited. In the week leading up to the Super Bowl, he stated that he wanted to start a family and spend time with them.
He said in February, “I know I love football, and I’m so invested in this thing, and I’m in the moment right now,” according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “But if someone had ever questioned, “What do you want to be able to do? I want to be able to have a family and to be able to spend time with one.
As long as McVay is on the club, Los Angeles will be one of the most competitive teams in the league.
