Rashee Rice, a second-year wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, will take part in all of the team’s optional offseason activities despite being involved in legal matters arising from two distinct offseason events, according to an ESPN story on Monday.
The Chiefs’ Phase 3 of organized team activities, which include both rookies and veterans, begins on Monday.
Rice, 24, is charged with assaulting a photojournalist earlier this month at a nightclub in Dallas. The photographer’s wounds were not life-threatening, so they were sent to the hospital.
The SMU wide receiver, who was raised in the Dallas region, was already facing issues in the city due to his involvement in a March 30 six-car collision. After a few days, Rice handed himself in to the police. He is accused of six collisions causing injuries, one crime of aggravated assault, and one count of collision involving serious bodily injury.
At least one woman suffered “severe physical injury,” while another was left stranded on the highway with her 4-year-old son for around five hours following the incident, among the seven persons who were injured.
According to a recent story from ESPN, the Chiefs are prepared for a multi-game suspension for Rice. Both the team and the league are awaiting the conclusion of the judicial proceedings in both instances.
