The Steelers are “throwing all they have” behind veteran quarterbacks, according to an NFL insider…
The Pittsburgh Steelers were obviously a long way from contending for a Super Bowl, even though they advanced to the Wild Card stage of the 2024 NFL playoffs.
For a considerable portion of the past few years, Pittsburgh hasn’t been entirely itself, and this may be attributed to their quarterback situation.
Though Kenny Pickett was thought to be the team’s long-term starting quarterback, the Steelers signed Russell Wilson as a free agent due to Pickett’s highly uneven play.
Originally, Wilson and Pickett were supposed to battle for the starting position, but once Wilson was moved to the Philadelphia Eagles, the team indicated Wilson had the edge.
In order to challenge Wilson, Pittsburgh also acquired Justin Fields; yet, it is widely believed that Wilson will start the 2024 NFL season.
Wilson must go back to his playing level for the Steelers to succeed, and they are making every effort—including using “The Rich Eisen Show”—to help him achieve just that.
Tom Pelissero stated, “They are throwing everything they have behind Russell Wilson.”
Pelissero puts an end to any rumors that Fields will eventually take over as quarterback by confirming that the team is making every effort to demonstrate to the locker room that Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the 2018 campaign.
But as supporters have already witnessed, Wilson’s subpar play in recent years has resulted in his benching, so that scenario is conceivable this season.
Pitt may be in for another difficult season if Wilson is unable to return to anything approaching his elite level of play.
