This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers signed veteran linebacker De’Vondre Campbell in an incredibly underappreciated move during NFL free agency.
In recent years, Campbell has contributed significantly to the Green Bay Packers’ defence and has excelled in the role.
Although he has experienced some injury problems, he has shown dominance on the pitch.
Now that he’s a member of the 49ers, Campbell is eager to start anew. He has long admired San Francisco’s defensive scheme and is thrilled to be a part of it.
San Francisco 49ers LB De’Vondre Campbell Offers A Brave Opinion About Defence
Campbell explained his motivation for wanting to sign a free agent contract with the 49ers to Justin Melo of 49ers Webzone in a recent interview.
Of course, I’ve had plenty of chances to play against the San Francisco 49ers in the past. To be honest, I’ve always found their style of football to be appealing. In fact, while I was a player with the Atlanta Falcons, I was part of a comparable defensive strategy.
In terms of the system, there is already a sense of familiarity.
He went on to compliment the San Francisco 49ers defence further and to provide his thoughts on how he believes he will fit in.
This defence’s approach to playing football is fantastic. They own several dogs and hunt. The fact is, after losing a truly outstanding player (Dre Greenlaw) to injury during the Super Bowl, they had a gap that needed to be addressed. I think I can add something by entering. I don’t have to go above and beyond what is required of me.
Following an injury-plagued 2023 season, Campbell is returning to action. He ultimately participated in 11 games.
Campbell recorded 75 total tackles in those 11 games, along with a fumble recovery and a pass defence.
But in his inaugural campaign with the Packers, he recorded 146 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovered fumble, two interceptions, and five passes defensed.
A player who, given enough time and health, has the potential to be a huge star is joining the San Francisco 49ers. He should have a significant impact and fit in with the plan. In free agency, Campbell might end up being the greatest stealer.
