Joe Burrow, sporting a new blond buzzcut, addressed the media for the first time in training camp on Wednesday. While updates on his wrist have been a focus, his hair has drawn comparisons to Eminem and pro wrestler Cody Rhodes. Another fresh development for Burrow is his participation in the preseason, something he’s rarely done, with only three snaps in his career.
Despite past injuries, Burrow is excited about playing in the preseason, which begins for the Bengals on August 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He believes it’s important for the team to be at their best at the start of the season. Head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Burrow’s clearance following wrist surgery and plans for him to play in the preseason, although the extent of his participation is yet to be determined.
Entering his fifth NFL season, Burrow has faced various setbacks that kept him from preseason play, including COVID-19, an ACL tear, an appendectomy, and a calf strain. His 2023 season was cut short to 10 games due to a wrist ligament tear.
Burrow mentioned he was happy with his progress during Wednesday’s practice, though he is still adjusting. As for his new hairstyle, boredom and a nudge from 310-pound defensive tackle B.J. Hill prompted the change. Hill has now committed to matching Burrow’s look.
The blond buzzcut is now a trending topic in Cincinnati, much like Burrow’s anticipated preseason play.
