During the 2021–2022 season, Smith Rowe established himself as a fan favorite at the Emirates Stadium by tallying ten goals and two assists in 33 Premier League matches.
His growth, however, has subsequently been badly limited by injuries. He missed a large portion of Arsenal’s 2022–23 season due to a groin issue, and Gabriel Martinelli has since taken over his preferred left wing position.
Smith Rowe, who has one goal in three appearances for England’s senior team, is reportedly desperate for more first-team opportunities this year in order to make Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
As a result, if the 23-year-old does not see an improvement in playing time at Arsenal before the January transfer window, he will consider his options.
Aston Villa, who has previously made significant efforts to get Smith Rowe, is still interested in him, and Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on the situation.
Smith Rowe, whose deal with Arsenal runs through 2026, might be permitted to go out on loan for the second half of the 2023–24 campaign before coming back to the club. This would also give international clubs a chance to compete because it is unlikely that they could afford the permanent price the Gunners would demand.
Smith Rowe has previously traveled to play for RB Leipzig; during a loan season in 2019, he made three appearances for the Bundesliga team.
Smith Rowe acknowledged having confidence problems after Wednesday’s victory at Brentford, but he has since changed his perspective and is now prepared to compete for his spot at Arsenal in the meantime.
“My mindset has slightly altered, and now I’m simply going for it. I honestly don’t have anything to lose. I’ve made an effort to modify that within myself,” he stated. “I used to be really doubtful. At times, I used to doubt my confidence. But I’m incredibly strong now. I am incorporating my current sensation of great fitness.
“The gaffer has been an enormous assistance to me in that. He was encouraging me while I recovered from my accident and frequently pulled me aside to talk about developing my mental fortitude. When I couldn’t assist the boys on the field, I tried to be as supportive of them as I could. Despite how difficult it was, I have grown stronger.
