It’s too easy — McTominay explains why players flop at Man United and shine elsewhere
Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has rejected the suggestion that the atmosphere in the club stifles players, hence why former Red Devils’ flops thrive upon their exit.
The 29-year-old came up through the ranks at Manchester United and was a first-team player from 2017 till he left the club to join Napoli in 2014.
The Carrington graduate was largely maligned during his time at the club, with many fans and critics arguing that his talent level was beneath that required to wear the Red Devil badge.
However, since leaving Manchester United, McTominay has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world, leading Napoli to a Scudetto title with 12 goals and four assists.

The Scotsman’s performance was so great that he won the Serie A Player of the Season and 18th place on the Ballon d’Or rankings.
His rise in profile, in addition to Antony’s improved form at Real Betis and Marcus Rashford at Barcelona, has led to theories and speculations about the environment at Manchester United.
During a recent interview with CBS’s Kate Abdo, McTominay gave his opinion on the discussion. “It’s just too easy of an excuse to say, ‘Oh, they left Man United and now they’re doing well in,’” he argued. “Last year I did well. I scored 10 goals, and we won a trophy.
“With Marcus, obviously, there was different issues which might have transpired, which we won’t go into. However, Marcus is a top player, and he’s always been a top player.
“He’s one of the club legends. He’s scored so many goals for Man United and done so many great things. Because the spotlight’s directly on you, it makes it seem a lot worse, in my opinion.
“Obviously, when players go away, and they’re playing more games, they’re going to have an increase in confidence. Feel better about themselves rather than playing less minutes at Man United, for example.
