On Wednesday, the Ohio State Buckeyes were left without a significant commitment in the form of five-star Justin Scott.
During the month of July of this past year, the Ohio State Buckeyes were marginally included in the majority of projections for the five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott from St. Ignatius (Chicago, Illinois). However, defensive line coach Larry Johnson worked his magic.
In the class of 2024, Scott was ranked as the third-best defensive lineman, and it was anticipated that he would go either to Miami or Notre Dame. However, he just declared his intention to attend Ohio State.
Now, however, Scott has changed his mind and is now playing for the Miami Hurricanes rather than Ohio State. This shift occurred on Wednesday night.
The fact that the Hurricanes continued to pursue him even after he had already committed to Ohio State was one of the primary reasons that Scott decided to switch schools. He also mentioned that the Hurricanes clearly needed him.
According to what Scott shared with On3, they have not altered since the very first time they offered me the job. Despite the fact that I had already committed, they continued to recruit me and underline the importance of my position there. In addition, I have developed a great number of strong relationships with each and every member of the personnel there.
Scott also noted a strong relationship with the coaching staff and the variety of ways they plan to use him along the way as key factors in his decision.
“I am closest with Coach Schrum, Coach Salavea, Coach Cristobal, and Coach Taylor,” Scott said. “They plan on using me from the 3 to like 6, so really just playing everywhere on the Dline.”
Even without Scott in the class, the Buckeyes were able to retain their No. 2 spot in the On3 recruiting rankings behind Georgia.
The Buckeyes still have four other five-star commits in the class as of now, including defensive lineman Eddrick Houston.
