Though good at Michigan, he chose a different path. Now the ex-Wolverine needs a new home.
When linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green accessed the transfer site at the end of April, it took some by surprise. Due to a persistent injury, he was unable to play for Michigan in 2022; nevertheless, after becoming a starter in 2021, many anticipated that he would see a lot of playing time in 2023.
However, Hill-Green chose to move to Charlotte to follow Biff Poggi, and he had a successful 2023 season there.
But Hill-Green has logged onto the transfer portal once more in the hopes of locating a third place to call home.
In his lone season at Charlotte, Hill-Green played in 11 games and finished second on the team with 73 tackles. He racked up nine TFLs and had two sacks under Poggi.
In 2021, at Michigan, Hill-Green had 50 tackles and two TFLs in his one season as a starting linebacker.
Hill-Green entered the portal as a graduate transfer, and he should have a good offer list. This is just purely speculating, but a return to the Wolverines wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for either party. Hill-Green should excel in Jesse Minter’s defense. And the Wolverines will lose Michael Barrett to graduation and possibly Junior Colson to the NFL draft.
Ernest Hausmann, who has gotten a lot of playing time at Michigan, will be back in 2023.
