Apparently, the Arizona Cardinals were looking to acquire some assistance at the linebacker position. But they were unable to comprehend it.
In order to make room for Shaquile Leonard, a former linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, the Philadelphia Eagles allowed Christian Elliss to leave his position with the team. In the process of claiming him off waivers, the New England Patriots did so.
Elliss, on the other hand, was a well-liked player among waivers. Six different teams, including the Cardinals, have reportedly filed waiver claims on Elliss, as reported by Field Yates of ESPN.
It would have been the Cardinals, who are ranked third in priority, who would have been able to acquire him if it weren’t for the Patriots, who hold the second-highest priority in terms of waiver claims, behind the Carolina Panthers.
During his three seasons with the Eagles, Elliss has spent the majority of his time playing on special teams. As a result, he is familiar with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, both of whom were on the Eagles’ coaching staff during the previous season. As Ellis’ position coach, Rallis was in charge.
A player who is already familiar to the Cardinals’ coaching staff and who has the potential to add depth and help on special teams was recently passed over by the Cardinals.
Be sure to keep a watch on the Cardinals and the waiver wire in the event that the Patriots make the decision to move on from Elliss for virtually any reason. You can be sure that they would still want him if they had wanted him in the past.
