Signed to a 53-man roster, Melvin Gordon III joins the practise squad as Jake Funk
Tuesday saw the addition of Keaton Mitchell to the injured reserve list. Mitchell sustained a season-ending knee injury during Sunday’s 23-7 victory over the Jaguars.
Gordon, who has spent the whole season on the practise squad, was lifted for three games and gained 53 yards on 13 touches in the passing game. In Week 4’s game against the Browns, he ran three times for 22 yards and caught one pass for 23 yards. That was his last game of action. Gordon will give Gus Edwards and Justice Hill’s running back rotation some depth.
The 30-year-old Gordon, who is in his eighth season in the NFL, led the Broncos in running in 2020 (986 yards) and 2021 (918 yards) after rushing for a career-high 1,105 yards with the Chargers in 2017. With 312 career receptions, he can catch passes out of the backfield as well.
Melvin Gordon is one of the league’s elite football players, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh’s statement on Monday. The fact that we will now have the chance to include him in the mix is almost shocking, since he has been requesting to be included.
He has been putting in a lot of practise and effort. As if he were saying, Hey. I will be prepared for the chance when it arises.Jake Funk, a former running back for Maryland, was also added by the Ravens to the practice squad. Funk, a standout prep player at Damascus High, broke the state record for his senior year with 57 touchdowns.
Funk was a seventh-round choice by the Rams in 2021 after amassing 968 career yards of rushing at Maryland. As a rookie, Funk won a Super Bowl with the Rams, mostly playing on special teams. Funk was dismissed from Miami’s practise squad on November 18, and he has previously played for the Colts.
