Since their bye week, they have dropped four of their last six games and no longer resemble the reigning Super Bowl champions that we anticipated seeing at the start of the season. The Chiefs defeated the Raiders 31–17 in Las Vegas on November 26, so it should have been quite easy to handle them.
However, the Raiders’ two defensive touchdowns in a seven-second stretch toward the end of the first half sealed the deal with a 20-14 home loss. Additionally, it unintentionally brought Travis Kelce, who is typically cool, collected, and composed, to life with some anticipated frustrations.
Travis Kelce threw his helmet; why?
The tight end’s exact motivation for slamming his helmet is unknown, although CBS pundit Jim Nantz stated it happened following the Raiders touchdowns in the first half. More specifically, with 2:43 remaining in the half and down to fourth and 5, the Chiefs faked a punt and passed for a first down. Due to a missed field goal by Kansas City to end the drive, Las Vegas maintained a 17-7 advantage at the half.
After putting himself between Kelce and his helmet, Andy Reid attempted to comfort the star player with Patrick Mahomes’ assistance.
The Chiefs are still in charge of their own fate as they aim to win the AFC West for the eighth time in a row. With a two-game advantage over the 7-8 Raiders and Broncos in the division at 9-6, a victory in either of their next two games would secure the title once more.
Week 17 will see Kansas City host the Bengals before playing the Chargers on the road to end the regular season.
