Jaire Alexander says he wants to stay with the Packers after serving a one-game suspension and coming back.
GREEN BAY On Wednesday, Jaire Alexander expressed his gratitude for being a member of the Green Bay Packers and promised not to repeat the actions that earned him a one-game suspension.
In addition, the 26-year-old cornerback expressed his desire to play for the Packers in the future. After the suspension, Alexander held discussions with team officials, and he hoped that these would strengthen his connection with them.
Alexander admitted that there was undoubtedly something he could have done better that week to facilitate conversation. “Going ahead, that won’t take place once again.”
Despite having a shoulder issue for the past two months, Alexander participated fully in Wednesday’s practice. Alexander’s potential involvement was not disclosed by Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur on Sunday as the Packers (8-8) look to defeat the Chicago Bears (7-9) and secure a postseason berth.
After designating himself captain for the Packers’ Christmas Eve victory over the Carolina Panthers in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, Alexander was suspended for one game.
Alexander said that the defence preferred to be on the field first after the Packers won the coin toss, not that the team would postpone the option until the second half. Alex Kemp, the referee, urged Alexander to elaborate, which gave the Packers a break. LaFleur had previously communicated his plans to the officiating staff in the event that the Packers won the toss.
Alexander admitted that he hadn’t anticipated such a severe penalty.
“Yes, the suspension surprised me,” he admitted. “I had a feeling I might get fined.”
Due to his suspension, Alexander was unable to face Pro Bowl receiver Justin Jefferson on Sunday in Minnesota; yet, Green Bay’s defence flourished in his absence, defeating the Vikings 33-10.
Alexander remarked, “At first, I was really furious, but once my boys went out there and did what they did, I can’t be too mad.” “I felt fairly content.”
Although he noted that “my interviews might be a little more serious,” Alexander stated he didn’t think there would be many noticeable changes in the way he conducted business going forward. During his meeting with the media on Wednesday, the man who, following the Carolina game, discussed the coin-toss event while sporting sunglasses and an absurdly large hat, did not bring any other accessories.
When healthy, Alexander is among the Packers’ greatest players overall. In May 2022, he was awarded a four-year contract extension worth $84 million, along with a signing bonus of $30 million.
However, he has only appeared in six of the 16 games this season for the Packers.
Due to a back ailment, he was out for three games in the first two months of the season. Afterwards, he suffered a shoulder issue that kept him out of six games until the Carolina game. The one-game suspension was thereafter served by him.
On Wednesday, a question was posed to Alexander regarding whether his shoulder problem affected his ability to perform physically on the pitch.
“I can attempt to,” he answered. It’s a way of thinking. Certain plays are superior to others.
Alexander expressed hope that he would be able to play against the Bears with a healthy shoulder. Additionally, he was optimistic that the suspension would spark discussions that would help him in his interactions with LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst.
“Hearing all viewpoints was beneficial for both parties,” Alexander remarked. “We delved into the details.”
Alexander acknowledged that his communication with team officials might be improved.
“Talking to anyone else would be a little bit of a challenge, but talking to my boys is easy,” Alexander remarked. “I need to improve on that.”
