Eagles can pursue these seven viable prospects for defensive coordinator after dismissing Sean Desai.
Ian Rapoport revealed that Eagles head coach Nick Siriannini sacked defensive coordinator Sean Desai, a move that had been widely anticipated for weeks.
The Eagles’ sole victory since Week 12 came against the Giants, when they almost squandered a 17-point lead. The team concluded the season with six losses in their final seven games, with those losses coming by an average of 15 points.
Prior to Week 15, Desai was relieved of his playcalling responsibilities. The decision was made after Philadelphia’s disastrous second half came to an end on Monday night when they lost 32-9 to the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Now that the transfer is complete, we’re examining seven plausible successors for Sean Desai and Matt Patricia.
Martindale, Wink
The Giants defense tied the Bills for the most total takeaways (31) of any NFL club in 2023, despite Martindale’s defense ranking No. 27.
As the defensive coordinator for the Ravens from 2018 to 21, he oversaw three top-10 units and as a linebackers coach, he assisted Baltimore in winning the Super Bowl.
Philadelphia need a cultural shift, and Martindale’s demanding methodology is the solution.
Former Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier
In addition to being a successful defensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills, Frazier was a finalist for the head coaching position with the Giants, which ultimately went to Brian Daboll.
For his final three seasons, the Bills defense ranked among the top five in the league.
Minter Jesse
40 years of age
Present title: Michigan’s defensive coordinator (2022–)
Previous positions held as defensive coordinator and safety coach for Vanderbilt (2021) and as defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens (2020)
Philly Eagles interview in Washington, DC, 2023
Minter would provide the much-needed pressure package; he interviewed for the job during the previous summer.
In 2023, Minter oversaw the Michigan Wolverines’ defense, which was ranked first in both yards allowed and scoring defense in NCAA football. During the offseason, Minter, one of the best defensive coordinators in college football, conducted interviews for the role.
