New facts on accident involving Ohio State football coach Brian Hartline
The first-year Ohio State offensive coordinator was involved in a UTV accident and sent to the hospital
There are fresh details emerging from the UTV accident that landed Ohio State football offensive coordinator Brian Hartline in the hospital in recent days.
Hartline was rushed to Riverside Methodist Hospital following the accident to receive treatment, but has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Now, according to the Delaware County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Department, we have fresh facts surrounding the collision, including an admission from Hartline that he had been drinking prior to the crash.
Hartline, who was driving the UTV that crashed, was resting on the ground when deputies arrived at the scene of the accident.
Another individual who was there told police authorities that he was partially ejected from the truck but did not know if Hartline was also tossed as well.
Hartline’s sister placed the 911 call and was questioned by the dispatcher if the coach and his friend had been drinking. She said, “Yes, they have.”
The sheriff’s report then observed that Hartline’s hospital room had “a strong stench of an alcoholic beverage.”
“I appreciate everyone’s support,” Hartline said first in a tweet following the accident. “I crashed side by side on my land and have been brought to the hospital for further evaluation. I am doing well.”
Hartline came to notoriety as Ohio State’s wide receivers coach and notably as one of the football program’s most high-profile recruiters.
Hartline helped develop wide receiver talent like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison, Jr., among others.
He also took on the passing game coordinator job in 2022.
A native of Canton, Hartline played wide receiver at Ohio State under head coach Jim Tressel before moving onto the National Football League, playing for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.
