Former Bills player AJ McCarron signs with the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks and returns home for spring football.
Back in familiar territory is the highly sought-after passing acquisition by the Buffalo Bills from the 2018 campaign. At least one of them,
AJ McCarron, the quarterback for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League, has returned for the weekend. Josh Allen, a rookie at the time, replaced McCarron as the Bills’ starting quarterback in 2018 after the quarterback was sidelined by a shoulder injury during the preseason. Shortly before the season began, he was dealt to the Oakland Raiders.
Known for his legendary time as a University of Alabama student, McCarron played in two games toward the end of the season while spending the majority of the season in the Cincinnati Bengals’ system. The 2014 draft pick, selected in the fifth round, has gained excellent recognition on the spring circuit. As a Battlehawk, he led the resurrected XFL in completion percentage, touchdown passes, and quarterback rating, which helped him win MVP awards the previous season.
Four XFL teams, including St. Louis, are joining forces with four more teams from the United States Football League to form a joint venture. The first season of the combined UFL will begin on March 30.
