Birthday Promises: The 19-year-old star promises to stay on top of her game for decades to come.
Gauff found herself trailing 2-5 in the decider but demonstrated her determination by staging a comeback and ultimately winning the third-set tie-break. After the match, she learned that this victory marked her 50th win in a WTA 1000 as a teenager since the category’s inception in 2009. Gauff expressed her delight at achieving this milestone and looked forward to celebrating her 20th birthday on March 13th.
During an on-court interview, Gauff acknowledged her accomplishments and goals, including becoming the youngest American to win the US Open since Serena Williams. She expressed satisfaction with her teenage years, achieving her major goal of winning a Grand Slam as a teenager. Looking ahead, Gauff is optimistic about the next decade on the tour, aiming to add more major titles to her trophy cabinet.
“I am really happy with how my teenage years went. I did everything I wanted to do, which my biggest was winning a major as a teenager. Hopefully, I can win a couple more in my 20s. Age is just a number; I’m gonna be out here for at least another 10 years.”
